Gracepoint Baptism Sunday

March 7, 2010
11:30 am

We will be having a baptism this Sunday.  A baptism is where a Christian makes a public profession of their faith.  And this weekend, Samanthu Lu, one of our very own will be sharing how she became a Christian.  So come join us for this memorable occasion.

Location: Willard Middle School (2425 Stuart Street, Berkeley, CA)
Date/Time: Sunday, March 7 at 11:30am

This time will be followed by lunch fellowship at the YWCA to celebrate the baptism. Don’t miss this special occasion.

Winter Retreat with Gracepoint

Many of us started the new year by going to a retreat (an extended time away from our normal surroundings to study the Bible) with Gracepoint Berkeley church at the Mount Hermon Retreat Site. Over one weekend we listened to thought provoking Bible messages from the examples of people in the Bible such as Saul, Samson, the Rich Young Man, and Pilate. Older ones from the church also shared about their personal journey with God and how the Bible verses guided them at each step as they studied and struggled to live based on them. Many of us were challenged and encouraged to grow in vision and believe the promises of God, just like the ones he gave to Abraham.

Austin Warmth

Kevin, Gina, and I flew out to Austin to celebrate the First Anniversary of the Gracepoint- Austin church.  Expecting temperature in the 90’s and humidity, we were welcomed with cool weather and rain, similar to the weather in the Bay Area. After being welcomed by the staff, we took a quick tour of the large UT Austin campus seeing the locations of their Bible studies, meeting places, and their large gym. It is probably more than triple the size of the RSF. austin grp2 thumb Austin WarmthLast year, the team of staff relocated to Austin for a church plant near the University of Texas to live out the gospel to students. Only one year later, there are close to 100 students attending the Bible studies and Sunday worship services, and a core group of students were forming. Many people commented that it felt more like a five year old church rather than a one year old church. Another person commented that when she came with the team last year, she prayed that many people would fill the living room and the church would be lived out, but she did not think that it would happen so soon. It was amazing to meet the students and feel their warmth. They stayed late to talk with us and to get to know us, and many expressed how excited they were to be flying out to California for the Thanksgiving Retreat. I was personally blessed by the baptism testimonies of three college sophomores and the time spent with Sunny, the wife of Pastor Manny, who were my spiritual leaders when I was a college student.

What a way to end the week…

What do you say would be the best way to end the week for graduate students? How about listening a thoughtful message that helps you see the reality of life more clearly, followed by a time of wonderful praise and moving testimonies, and ending the night with a fun fellowship time over ice-cream or pastries? Well, that’s what we experienced this past Friday at Gracepoint Fellowship Church. We listened to Pastor Ed’s Truth Hater Part IV message series, worshipped and praised God with the Ei8ht Hour Shift band, and the ISM brothers fellowshipped over Fenton’s ice cream and the sisters over Strada’s pastries.

30 Hour Famine Photos

International Student Ministry split up into 2 groups to take part in the 30 Hour Famine with the rest of Gracepoint Fellowship Church‘s ministries. One group went to the Bay Area Rescue Mission to peel potatoes and help with cleaning. Another group made and sold baked goods while telling people about the 30 Hour Famine and World Vision. We were all hungry by the end, but we learned to serve together and give up a little bit so that others could benefit. Check out the pictures.

Frisbee and yogurt after home worship

2747405744 3bcd77af26 Frisbee and yogurt after home worshipLast week, we enjoyed our International Student Ministry home worship service of Gracepoint Berkeley. We listened to Del Tackett’s lesson on theology, “Who Is God?” And he challenged us all to be theologians, people who study God, and we can do it through the Bible. We might even be able to say like him in the future, “I love El Qanna”. (which means jealous God)

Afterward, we played a round of ultimate frisbee with both home churches–yes, the Alameda folks actually drove out for the festivities. The team with Jon Yen won–he is a force of nature–but it was a close 5-4 game, and it was a load of fun. We hope to do this regularly. And after running around, we then went out to Yogurtland for customized and yummy frozen yogurt. icon smile Frisbee and yogurt after home worship

Join us this week for Week 5 of the Truth Project and a sweet time of fellowship after! 10:30am, usual time and place.

Easter Worship Service and Baptism

Christians celebrate the Easter holiday because it commemorates the day that Jesus resurrected from his death, leaving his tomb empty. ISM participated in Gracepoint Fellowship Church’s Sunday Worship Service to celebrate this occasion.

Following this, four of our students got baptized! Praise God for this wonderful event!
