September Baptism Recap

5012529460 c81f87fcdd m September Baptism RecapThis past Sunday we had the chance to celebrate the baptisms of Joan, Melissa and Ping Hay. It was a wonderful time to see just how good God really is and how he pursued each one of them so personally. Joan shared her testimony on Friday and then during the main Sunday service at Gracepoint, telling us of how her selfishness led her to see her need for God and just how grateful she was that Jesus came to die for her sins. It’s hard to believe that God could so thoroughly change her in less than a year. Afterwards, our 3 IGSM members and 10 others from college and Praxis were baptized amidst a lot of applause, cheers, and congratulations.

We took a lot of pictures, bestowed gifts on them, and then headed to Buffet Town to have banana splits (ice cream). Ping Hay and Melissa shared their testimonies with us there, and we again saw how much God wanted them to be saved even though they each told stories of how they responded to God, wandered, and it was there that God really met them. We ended our time by having different brothers and sisters come and share about each of the baptism candidates. Sharon summed up the testimonies well when she said that these 3 are seemingly so attractive and competent and the best of their societies, and yet God met them each in their brokenness, for which we could all thank God for rescuing each of us in our brokenness too.

If you missed it, here are the pictures–remember to say congratulations to them!

Congratulations Daniel and Hui!

April 25, 2010- Our own Daniel and Hui got baptized with 20 others at Gracepoint Berkeley after becoming Christian in 2008 at the IGSM Winter Retreat. We rejoiced together as we recounted how God personally answered and addressed their questions and doubts, how God led Hui’s parents to salvation, and how God has continued to mold and shape them as they help other people to know Him. It was amazing to see their long journey and how God used the Bible, other people, and different examples from their lives to show them about His character especially through Daniel’s job search and PhD admission. I was personally awed to recount their journey from when they first joined the IGSM English Class many years ago. If you missed Hui’s testimony, you can read it here at Gracepoint Stories. You can also take a look at the pictures.

Location: Willard Middle School (2425 Stuart Street, Berkeley, CA)

This time will be followed by lunch fellowship at the YWCA to celebrate the baptism. Don’t miss this special occasion.

From Course 101 to Baptism Sunday

gracepoint berkeley fall baptism From Course 101 to Baptism SundayThis past weekend was Baptism Sunday at Gracepoint Berkeley.  Brothers Allen and Eric (not biologically related) were baptized, and Eric gave his testimony (again) during the worship service.  Hearing once again at how God worked in his life, bringing him to Berkeley for 1 year for a masters, and how he learned about sin and his need for the cross in that period of time was really powerful.  Indeed, it validates everything that we are striving for at IGSM: impacting international students with the gospel in the short window of time that they are studying here at America.  We also had a chance to celebrate with them by taking photos, presenting them with gifts–flowers from the sisters and NIV Life Application Study Bibles from the brothers, and giving them a warm hug was a very special time.

gracepoint baptism course 101 From Course 101 to Baptism SundayPersonally, it was very impactful for me because I’ve gotten a front row seat to see God change these two brothers’ lives and hearts in the 1 year they’ve been here.  I remember going on an SF outing with them 1 year ago.  I had no idea then that these two would be taking Course 101: Christian Foundations (you can sign up here!) with me and Jesse.  During C101, I saw them think about their lives more seriously and conclude that the gospel is true–and in the process, they had personal encounters with God.  I was so thankful to see them up there Sunday, and I can testify that God is good.  If you missed Baptism Sunday, be sure to congratulate them when you see them!

Baptism April 2009

Praise the Lord, Chin-Long, Holly, and Howard were baptized at Gracepoint Fellowship Church to symbolize their new life in Christ. We celebrated God’s work in their lives and heard their salvation testimonies.

Easter Worship Service and Baptism

Christians celebrate the Easter holiday because it commemorates the day that Jesus resurrected from his death, leaving his tomb empty. ISM participated in Gracepoint Fellowship Church’s Sunday Worship Service to celebrate this occasion.

Following this, four of our students got baptized! Praise God for this wonderful event!
