Naaman the Syrian was a great man: a successful general, valiant soldier, well regarded by his king… but he had leprosy. And yet, in those last words, we see our own predicament: as successful as we are, we are sinful. In looking at Naaman’s example of healing, we can ask ourselves: do we really want to get better from our sinfulness? Just because we can list out our problems in detail does not mean that we actually plan to take action. Even worse, we are terrible at taking advice to get better. We can learn about humility from Naaman.

International Graduate Student Ministry (IGSM) is an official graduate student group at UC Berkeley. IGSM started in the fall of 2003 with the vision to help all UC Berkeley graduate students from various countries (including students from the United States) find out the true meaning and purpose of their lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of us also attend Gracepoint Berkeley, where Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang lead the ministry.
