love locally, impact globally

Valentine’s Day of Compassion 2008: Convalescent Home Visit

ISM continued our rich tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day of Compassion with our elderly friends at the Alameda Care Center. Instead of reserving Valentine’s Day for chocolates and pink hearts for the hopelessly romantics, we changed the criteria of Valentine’s Day by sharing our time and our love with the lonely and neglected individuals of our society. The elderly enjoyed receiving our gifts of scarves and socks but mostly expressed their thankfulness for remembering them. This has become very meaningful not only to the residents but to those who attended as many of us left with enlarged hearts and a greater appreciation of our daily blessings. It has become a joy for us to express real love defined by sharing our time with the elderly. The tradition of Valentine’s Day of Compassion continues not just once a year but every month. Please join us next month and experience your heart grow in love!
