On a cold night before Halloween while the wind was howling outside, we stayed warm inside by playing sports- handball, musical basketball, Braveheart, and volleyball. Many friends joined us. International Graduate Student Ministry (IGSM) is an official graduate student group at UC Berkeley. IGSM started in the fall of 2003 with the vision to help all UC Berkeley graduate students from various countries (including students from the United States) find out the true meaning and purpose of their lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of us also attend Gracepoint Berkeley, where Pastor Ed and Kelly Kang lead the ministry.
For the first time in the distinguished history of our Sports Nights, I experienced shock and awe at the athletic fierceness of many of our IGSM sisters. With my own eyes, I witnessed sisters hurling the wild turkey ball with intimidating force at point blank range at a fellow sister only to find that sister unflinchingly holding her ground, catching the ball, and returning fire with equal forcefulness to–lo and behold!–find that sister also fearlessly unmoved, clutching the ball, mercilessly returning fire, and on and on! Wow! It was truly reminiscent of comic book death matches of old, where an entire city would be leveled as buildings collapsed from shock waves generated by the cosmic-scale force of blows exchanged by Superman and the Doomsday creature.
