The excitement of receiving and welcoming new international graduate students continued in Part 2 of our Graduate Student Welcome Night series. Although the stress of school has begun to mount for some of our students, many of the new friends managed to join us again for the second Welcome Night. We also met many new friends. We once again packed Lipman Room with about 100 attendees.
During our dinner and mingling time, many people took advantage of the beautiful, clear weather and enjoyed their meal and conversation on the balcony around the Lipman Room. Many of us took pictures with UC Berkeley’s historic Campanile in the background.
We showed an older introduction video that we made 4 years ago. It was well received. Before we launched into the message portion, four of our IGSM members performed a short skit to demonstrate how four graduate students perceive the biggest problem in this world and what they end up doing with their conviction. Connecting to the skit in his message, Professor Chul dissected the meaning of success and showed us the biblical view of success using references to the Christian Bible. You can listen to the entire message here:
After the message, we played three rounds of group games together: Pose Game, Team Pictionary, and Line Charades. It was an exciting competition as each group tried their best to beat out the other team. It was neck-to-neck competition. Overall, it was just a lot of fun.
Hopefully, you won’t miss the last installment of the Welcome Series coming up this Friday.
Time: 6:30pm, September 11th
Place: 110 Barrows Hall

I hope people who missed the second welcome night will come back for the third one since the third one will be the most
content-rich… May God bless all these people for their
grad life here in Berkeley!
I found the Line Charades game so great!
I hope it will be some music on Welcome Night part 3 (Caleb?) ^^
GSWN 2 was an exciting time indeed! Don’t worry, JB, I’m sure there’ll be more music in the future
“Swimming across the river with a ring worm on the belly” definitely takes the cake! That was really hilarious, JB! Given the tight schedule for Welcome Night #3, we won’t have music. But maybe we will bring music back to our regular Friday Forum after this week.
