Howard and Wesley returned from Honduras this week and they provided a mission report of their trip with BMDMI (Baptist Medical & Dental Mission International) and all that they experienced on this trip. Afterwards, Lauren gave a touching testimonial bible study of her trip to Central Asia and how it is with sacrifice and love that the valleys of bitterness in our lives can turn into places of springs (Psalm 84:6).

In the last message of the “More Than Meets the I” series, Celia shares her salvation testimony before going back to Macau. Then, Chul examines the most dangerous vice in our lives–the ego (i.e. arrogance or excessive self-focus). Through a character study of King Saul through 1 Samuel, we learn about the nature of humility, the destructive power of the ego, and practical ways to prevent ourselves from becoming proud.

In Part II of the “Help My Unbelief” series, Chul Kim uses John 9:1-41 as a springboard to teach us how to bridge the gap between the undeniable and the unexplainable in our lives. What fuels our desires to ask those unexplainable questions in our lives? Is it out of genuine interest or could it be that we could dismiss the undeniable things and cling onto the unexplainable things in an attempt to discount important realities in our spiritual journeys?

As you all know IGSM is participating in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine, which is
a fundraiser drive that fights hunger and poverty for children worldwide. We will go without food for 30 hours and be hungry for the hungry children.
We will not eat from 12am on 6/26 to 6am on 6/27. In addition, we will hold a yard sale this Saturday to raise more money toward this cause on the day of the fast. However, your sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. The deadline for fundraising is soon coming to an end (6/30), so support us in this fundraising efforts.
You can sponsor us for $1/hr, $30 total. Or, you can support us however much you can spare, every dollar helps! On world average, $30 can help feed and care for a hungry child for a month. We are trying to raise $5000 within IGSM through this effort.
In Part II of the “More than Meets the I” series, Chul discusses how we are more than our feelings. Why do our feelings often dominate our lives? How can we combat our feelings and learn to overcome our “spiritual depression”? Through the text in 1 Kings 19, we learn the answers to these questions and more.

What is the 30 Hour Famine? The 30 Hour Famine is a World Vision program that allows people to make a significant impact on the problem of world hunger while growing closer to God and to each other. By pledging to go without food for 30 hours, participants not only raise money to help feed and care for children worldwide, but also gain an understanding of how it feels to experience hunger.
I made the following video to demonstrate how to ask for sponsorship. (It was done in two takes, so please pardon that I forgot my lines in the middle.) If you have any encouraging stories or tips about asking for sponsorship, please share them as comments below. It can be helpful for all of us to learn.

On the day of the fasting (6/26), we will use the extra time that we get from not eating our meals to raise extra money for 30 Hour Famine as a group via yard sale, bake sale, and making balloon animals.

In his message on “Jesus the Galilean”, Chul focuses on the phrases “Caesar Augustus”, “the town of Nazareth” and “manger” in Luke 2:1-7. These phrases help us to better understand the context of the time period, fill us with hope regarding our weaknesses, and remind us that no issue is a legitimate excuse in not offering our everything to God.
