Friday Forum is back at Barrows! Chul gave a refreshing message on “walking on water” experiences that help to increase our faith. To assist in illustrating some of these experiences, some of our students performed two skits: a funny one that showed how Peter walked on water, and a dramatic skit that shows the crucifixion of Jesus and our roles in his death.

After the Bible study, Nghia briefly shared with us about his experience being the sole grad student from our church to join the week-long mission trip to UC Riverside. We are very happy to have him back with us! We also celebrated Irene Zhang’s birthday with a cake, and then many of us went over to Durant Loft to play some board games and ping-pong. The evening concluded after an epic round of “Bang!” which went on until shortly past midnight.

The night before Christmas, we ate a delicious potluck dinner at Joseph & Carolyn’s new home, and ended the night by watching “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Click to expand!

We had a fun time together with friends who are staying here for Christmas in the Bay Area – many of whom we haven’t seen for awhile! The classic movie was perfect for this Christmas time, even reminding us of the wonderful lives we have and that each one of us can have a great impact on others’ lives. Check out the photos. This past Sunday, we celebrated our brother Ben’s graduation at Haas Pavilion. Though we weren’t able to make it in time to cheer for Ben (sorry, Ben!), we took some pictures together over at the Alumni House. Afterwards, Ben’s parents treated us out for lunch at Sun Hong Kong restaurant (thank you!).

This past Sunday, we had our Thanksgiving Celebration with the entire Gracepoint Church. “TC” featured several performances by our ministry groups, one of which was IGSM’s “So You Think You Can Thank?”

After all the fun, embarrassment, and laughter, we celebrated with a traditional homemade Thanksgiving dinner: turkey, turkey stuffing, cranberry jam, corn, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and delicious sweets!

On Sunday, we witnessed the baptism of Bo and 11 other brothers and sisters at our church.

As we heard the testimonies of Bo, Jenny, and Amanda, it is so evident that God transforms lives, allowing us to die to the old life of sin (going under water) and enter into a new life with Jesus Christ (rising from the water).

We spent this past weekend at beautiful Yosemite, enjoying the mountainous scenery, hiking up the Vernal Falls trail, eating delicious BBQ steak, playing games and enjoying late night snacks at Yosemite House and around the campfire!

As we drove through Tunnel View and Glacier Point, seeing the waterfalls and Half Dome up close, we could only be in awe by the scene before our eyes. Many of us could resonate with David’s response to creation,

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:1,3-4)

Though we are so small in comparison to nature, when we see our rightful place in this world, we are reminded that there is a Creator who is mindful of us and loves us. Struggling up the hiking trail together and making it to the top was one unforgettable bonding experience that only reveals how wonderful relationships and friendships really are.

This Saturday we got together in different homes, prepared meat filling from scratch, and wrapped dumplings together.

It was a fun time learning how to wrap dumplings, being creative in the design and folding, and best of all, eating them together! We also got to learn more about one another by playing “Two Truths and a Lie” and even using alliteration to create a descriptive name for ourselves. Check out the photos!

We had our first ever IGSM/IUSM/VSM combined welcome night, with an amazing turnout of over 350 people!

We started with dinner consisting of Hawaiian BBQ chicken and mingled in groups to get to know one another. We then watched a skit called “Race of a Lifetime” that was impactful for many, followed by an inspiring message on “purpose” by Matthew Kim, which provided many students with a precious opportunity to have a “second look” on their lives. Though the place was crowded, we got to enjoy the program and have fun playing group games like “Scavenger Hunt” and “It’s All About the Numbers.”

Next Friday will be our second welcome night with the theme “people,” followed by a fun sports time. Hope you can join!
