Please join us this Sunday for our IGSM/VSM Sunday Service. We will meeting in a new location this Fall on Durant Ave across the street from the Asian food court. The building also contains the restaurant Buffet Town, so you can look for their sign to identify the building. As usual, after service we will have lunch together.
Enjoying your time with IGSM so far? We wanted to offer a way to plug in deeper with our community: small groups! Are you looking for a place where you can discuss your questions about Christian life? Somewhere where it’s safe to discuss your thoughts about God and faith? Or do you simply want a group of people to share life’s ups and downs together with? Join a small group, which we call LIFE groups:
It’s a place to pray for one another, study the Bible, and grow in our personal discipleship. If you’re interested, please sign up below and one of our staff will contact you.
In the first Sunday message of the new fall semester, Matthew Kim explores the following three questions with the backdrop of “The Parable of the Rich Fool” from Luke 12: (1) What is the life philosophy of the rich fool? (2) What are some fundamental assumptions inherent in the man’s life philosophy? (3) What does Jesus say about life? The answer to these questions will color how we want to be remembered by our colleagues and family members at the end of our lives.

This past Friday we had our first Graduate Student Welcome Night, and oh what a night it was! There were over 140 people in attendance and we had students from many countries including far east Japan, gregarious Germany, “Be the Reds” South Korea, the Pacific Ocean Philippines, valiant Vietnam, terrific Taiwan, and of course, the ever-so-populated country of China. It was nice to see so many grad students (and undergrads too!), many of whom had been in the U.S. for less than 1 month. Read more »
Over the Fourth of July weekend, several of us headed down for some fun in the sun on the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk! After a beautiful hike along the ocean coast, we devoured our lunch of Vietnamese sandwiches and fresh fruit on the soft sandy beach.
Upon entering the boardwalk, we split into two groups: an amateur roller coaster + pigging out group, and an EXTREME! rider group. Overall, both groups had a ton of fun experiencing the various attractions (including haunted houses, water splash rides, swings, and of course, the big dipper!) as well as getting a taste of all the famous fair foods (such as funnel cakes, ice cream dots, garlic fries, and shaved ice!)
Later, while some of us ventured out to test the ocean waters, others ended the day resting and playing soccer on the beach. And best of all, unlike the guys who spent the entire day fishing for their own dinner at sea, we got to enjoy some quality soft tofu soup on the way home–what a treat!
Teaching based on 1 Timothy 1:12-17 and Ephesians 3:7-13, Chul discusses how Christians should respond to “pressure” in Christian life. Why do some people view Christian life as laborious and tiresome? What happens when God becomes the center the of our lives? How does our personal appreciation for the Gospel and our testimony affect the way that we view service to God?

In the last installment of the “Pursuit of Happiness” series, Matthew Kim contends that happiness cannot be achieved by pursuing directly after it, but rather, it comes as a natural by-product when we put first things first. To put it another way, happiness can be found when we lose ourselves in worshipping God in a loving community, serving God’s mission on Earth.
